Late, empty and joyless monthly update #28

This post took me way too long to get to writing for several reasons, of which none were actual game updates, unfortunately. The progress is happening at a pace ten times slower than a snail's, partially because of life kicking me in various places, partially because of me still being completely oblivious to many useful programming and game dev concepts yet having little to no will to learn them as of now. I'm still keeping up with monthly game updates no matter what, and now it's time for yet another "what other things I did last month that would justify my lack of work on the game" kind of update!

GBA Jam '24 is here and you can participate in it (just please please please make sure you carefully read the jam rules and FAQ section and check gbadev.net's Getting Started guide before doing so, please, I BEG OF YOU) and also see my name pop up in the host name list and somewhere not too far from the jam page! I learned how to use Inkscape to make some neat banners for it, very cool.

I've also been poking NitrousTracker a bit in my spare time. This is not the first time I'm composing something in a tracker but is definitely the first time I'm taking it more seriously, and hopefully gaining some experience points in that and combining it with knowledge gathered from music tutorials will help me in figuring out AAMLC soundtrack as well, whether it's making something custom or "porting" the free MIDI music I would like to use, or sketching out tunes in order to have references I could provide when commissioning music, if that is how music commissioning process works even. Should the test things I end up making around this time be any good, I know just the game to put them in eventually.

Speaking of paid work, I shall conclude this empty and joyless devlog by urging you to go support indie game devs whose work you like, by buying something directly from them and/or sending them some positive feedback and/or sharing their stuff on social media (while giving proper credit, of course). While big game dev companies and publishers are the ones getting all the (mostly negative as of these days) attention, let's not forget the actual people behind the video game production process, people who work hard to bring you fantastic interactive experiences and who are mainly the ones getting screwed over by cruel and indifferent decisions of more powerful legal entities they have no other choice but to stick with in order for their creations to reach bigger audiences. Yeah, I've just typed a whole paragraph of text of no relevance to this game update at all, what can you do to me, this is my update text and I can do what I want with it, including sharing unrelated yet super important stuff!
